Description

Common hazel "Contorta" is a shrub up to 1.5-2 m high (in the conditions of the northwest). The most exotic type of hazel with curved, strongly twisted shoots and wrinkled leaves. In spring, its bare, twisted branches with drooping catkins look simply fantastic.

Contorta grows slowly. Planting is carried out for better survival of plants in spring or early summer. In summer, in an untidy drapery of large "crushed" leaves, this variety may not be attractive, but in early spring and after the leaves have fallen, the openwork structure of curved and twisted branches looks incredibly attractive. It is recommended to prune this variety in late spring, leaving only a few of the most "spectacular" branches. It looks best planted singly in a prominent place.

Care instructions

It is necessary to remove the rootstock. Moderately demanding to soil and humidity, does not tolerate waterlogging.
