Description
The Purpurea drooping birch has an unusual foliage color and an openwork conical crown. A narrow, slow-growing tree with warty branches and dark gray-black bark. Its diamond-shaped, unusually brightly colored leaves are especially impressive. Early in the spring, the budding leaves have a very bright dark red color that stands out against the background of the delicate green foliage of other trees; in the summer they become dark purple, and in the fall they change color to brown-red. Therefore, this birch looks very impressive against the background of buildings or plants with a contrasting color, both in single plantings and as part of complex tree and shrub compositions.
Birch phytoncides perfectly stimulate the respiratory system. The odorous substances of young leaves relieve nervous system strain. They are very useful for children.
Prefers fresh loamy and sandy loam soils. Does not tolerate the proximity of groundwater. Very photophilous. Undemanding to soil. Frost-resistant. The advantage of this variety is that it is characterized by slow growth and fairly compact size, which allows it to be grown in small areas.
