An evergreen, broadly pyramidal shrub with ribbed brown-purple shoots.

The leaves are elliptical with an elongated tip, wavy, with thorns, dark green with a violet-blue sheen. White flowers bloom in May, from which light red berries ripen in the fall (female type). It grows back well after pruning. The bush must be covered in the spring to prevent sunburn of the leaves.
