Form: one of the best conical varieties of thuja with moderate compact growth.
Evergreen coniferous tree with a very narrow, regular conical crown and vertical, very densely located branches; slow-growing.
Size: 4-6 m high and 1-1.8 m wide. Annual growth in height 10 cm-20 cm, in width 4-6 cm. At the age of 10 years reaches a height of 2.5 m. Max. crown diameter: up to 1.5 m
Needles: very decorative, all year round - green, delicate, scaly, frequent, shiny.
Fruits: cones are rare, oblong-ovoid, about 1 cm long, brown.
Max. crown diameter: up to 1.5 m
Care: unpretentious, but needs fairly fertile soil. As with all spring greens, do not allow the soil to dry out.
Light requirements: sun/partial shade. In the sun, the crown becomes denser and brighter. In the shade, the crown loses some of its density.
Soil requirements: requires fairly fertile and moist soil. Grows on both acidic and alkaline soils.
It is better to buy seedlings of western thuja 'Smaragd' in Ukraine (acclimatized) in a plastic container with fertilizers, so the plant is not dug up with inevitable damage to the root system and is guaranteed to take root after planting.
Individual characteristics: unpretentious, solitaire - a magnificent thuja for single planting. A valuable variety of thuja for creating hedges from 2 to 5 meters. Columnar, but without pruning takes the shape of a road cone.
Planting frequency in a row: every 0.6-0.7 m.
Zone: 5 - absolute frost resistance throughout Ukraine.
