Blue Star is a dwarf, evergreen shrub of silvery-blue color with scaly needle-like needles.
The crown of the shrub is geometrically almost semicircular, wide and dense, grows very slowly, and in ten years gains in growth no more than 0.4-0.5 m with the same diameter. The annual growth of Blue Star does not exceed 5.0 cm in height and 10 cm in width. Almost like all junipers, the needles of this shrub are relatively poisonous. The human body should not come into too close contact with this shrub, especially rubbing its needles in your hands. The shrub is completely undemanding to soil fertility, but does not like waterlogging and salty soils. It loves sunny places. This variety tolerates frosts, winds, droughts well. Recommended for group and single plantings, in rock gardens, in small gardens, on rocky hills, looks spectacular near tombs in cemeteries. Perfect for small compositions, near paths, along sidewalks and park alleys, for container growing.
Junipers are usually undemanding to the soil. But like any plant, junipers respond to good things with good things: good growth, lush shape, bright and natural colors. Almost all junipers, including Blue Star, respond well to both mulching and regular watering, and especially in the dry season. If you really want to grow not a tortured, but a truly beautiful decorative species, then it is still better to keep an eye on the soil of the bush. In our case, soils of medium density are suitable, preferably drained, but without stagnant water.
The growth of the bush responds very well to mulching and therefore it should be carried out at the end of each spring or at any warm time of the year.
Mulching is a kind of agricultural measure for the soil area around the plant, which then allows the root system to breathe normally, retain and absorb moisture. Before mulching, the area around the juniper is thoroughly cleared of debris and weeds, dry complex fertilizer mixed with earth, sand or sawdust is scattered on top, after which a layer of mulch from gravel, small stones and brick is added. The thickness of the layer should not exceed the threshold of 4-8 cm.
Almost all junipers do not require care, except for those from which you are going to form a hedge.
This type of dwarf juniper is most often used in cemeteries due to its compact shape and beautiful blue-light blue, almost silvery, color. The bush also looks good in landscape compositions of gardens and flower beds with a sprinkling of white pebbles or gravel, on borders and parapets of urban compositions, on stony hills, along park alleys, in winter gardens and rock gardens. The bush loves light, but also tolerates shaded planting sites. The ideal use of the bush is miniature landscape compositions.
Blue not in color, but in essence the Blue Star bush, as they say - small but precious. Its aristocratic color conquers with its blueness. As a species, Blue Star has been cultivated since 1964 and has already won the love of both landscape designers and gardeners. Small, elegant, beautiful in color and shape, the bush is well suited for planting with coniferous and deciduous plants of different species.
